How many pills will I get?
The total amount of capsules often depends on the volume of the placenta. The choice of encapsulation method will also affect the final count. The raw method yields more pills.
From experience, the average placenta will produce 140 to 200 capsules.

How long do the capsules last?
On average, placenta capsules have a 1-2 year shelf life if stored properly.
After two weeks, transfer remaining capsules into a ziplock bag, and store in the back of the freezer to extend shelf life.

How do I take the capsules?
You will receive full instructions regarding dosage with your order.

What sanitation precautions have been taken?
Safety and hygiene are paramount with any kind of placenta preparation. The methods we use consist of rigorous sanitation standards.
We have dedicated supplies and equipment. They are all stainless steel, glass, food grade plastic and when possible, disposable, discarded after one use.
All submersible equipment is washed in hot water with antibacterial soap, then sanitized in a bleach solution and air dried. Antiviral and antibacterial solutions are used for the non-submersible equipment.
We operate under strict Food Safety Guidelines and are licensed for Food Handling under Illinois State.
We also operate under the guidelines of Bloodborne Pathogen Safety, certified in Bloodborne Pathogen Training for Doulas and Placenta Encapsulators with Biologix Solutions.

Encapsulation is fine if :

there is delayed or immediate cord clamping

with an epidural/ c-section

having a water birth

There was meconium in the bag of waters

testing positive for Group B-strep

cord banking

Pre-eclampsia

having placenta previa

having gestational diabetes

having the placenta frozen

twins or triplets
The method of encapsulation ( raw or gentle) will be determined by the above situations but each situation would be safe for consumption.

When is it not possible to encapsulate?
-
Chemically contaminated placentas in pathology, either sanitizing or preserving.

Placentas that have sat out longer than 4-5 hours at room temperature post birth with no preservation methods.

Placentas that have sat in the refrigerator for more than 4-5 days without being frozen.

Uterine infections or chorioamnionitis ( an inflammation of the fetal membranes due to bacterial infection)

Heavy drug usage.

Heavy smoking during pregnancy.

Cancer of the placenta, which is called choriocarcinoma..

Lotus birth.

What is a tincture?
A placenta tincture preserves the placenta’s medicinal qualities for lifelong use. It is processed by taking a very small portion of the raw placenta and placing it in a prepared solution of high grade alcohol for a minimum of 6 weeks. It is suitable for consumption through the maternal lineage (grandmother, mother, daughter).

What is the difference between raw and gentle methods of encapsulation?

TRADITIONAL CHINESE METHOD ( GENTLE) :
This is the preparation method developed by Raven Lang, a midwife and TCM practitioner, in accordance with TCM principles and the specific needs of the postpartum period. This is the most commonly used placenta preparation method, and the one we strongly suggest for most of our clients. The main differentiating factor in this form of preparation is the step in which the placenta is gently steamed. In Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, birth leaves an open, empty space within ones self, which is very yin, or cold. The practice of gently steaming the placenta creates a warm energy, or yang. This method is most recommended for long term use, which is appropriate as clients usually take their placenta capsules over a six week period. By incorporating steam and warming herbs in the process, the final result is warming, tonifying, and nourishing during the initial postpartum period. The method of steaming also is known to balance the hormones of the placenta which allows the body to more easily absorb the nutrients.

RAW METHOD:
The raw method is just as it states. The raw placenta is dehydrated and then encapsulated. This method aligns with the Raw Diet, where food is not to be heated about 118 degrees Fahrenheit. Some believe that heating food above this temperature kills off vital nutrients. In reference to the placenta, people often argue that this method yields a medicinal remedy with more hormones and nutrients than the TCM method.
